The Procussions - 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents
Written by Franklin Grimes

R&B reviews Now this is more like it...ill in-house production blended with open-minded, free flowing lyrics to make for perhaps the most solid effort these ears have heard all year. Hailing from Colorado, The Procussions shine bright on their sophomore album, 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents.

To give you a slight idea of what The Procussions are transmitting, picture the light hearted, make you move your feet music of the Black Eyed Peas before Fergie was thrown into the mix. Shades of People Under The Stairs come to mind when I hear the laid back "I'll Fly" featuring Tara Ellis. Regardless of what memories The Procussions may stir up in my scatterbrain, the point is 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents is fun plain and simple.

Bubba Sparxxx - The Charm
Written by Franklin Grimes

hip-hop reviews C’mon buddy! Now you and I both know that the south and booty bouncing bass beats go together like cough syrup and private select strawberry soda. Just ask Bubba Sparxxx about his third album – The Charm.

As one of the two, little less few, white rappers to hail from the dirty south, Bubba Sparxxx has burrowed a niche for himself through his laid back approach and his conversational flow. His near veteran like savvy shines brightest on the melodic “Claremont Lounge” as he calmly wets the appetite of game hungry listeners with tidbits of women and drugs.

Jedi Mind Tricks Presents: Army of the Pharaohs – The Torture Papers
Written by Franklin Grimes
hip-hop reviews Riddle me this. How many emcees does it take to spark the interest of an already attention deficient hip-hop audience? In the case of Army of the Pharaohs – The Torture Papers, Jedi Mind Tricks, apparently, puts stock into assembling a roster of about twelve vocalists to keep the ears percolating and the heads nodding.

Is anyone listening yet? Probably not, but through solid production and gritty lyical performances, anyone who chooses to burn some brain cells may actually come to like The Torture Papers.

Tanya Morgan - Moonlighting
Written by Kenyetta Suggars a.k.a K-Shug
hip-hop reviews If you like the artists A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, or Common, then you will surely give a head bob to Tanya Morgan’s Moonlighting. And although the music world would welcome a new female rapper in the game, this group is comprised of three talented male lyricists and a producer, Von Pea, Don Will, Ilyas, and Brickbeats hailing from Brooklyn and Cincinnati. And although some may think this is a new group, they are not exactly "fish out of water.” They got their start as a group in 2003, working the underground hip-hop scene just as many of hip-hop’s greatest contributors like Biggie, Tupac, and Jay-Z.

Project Polaroid - Project Polaroid feat. Kool Keith
Written by Kristofer Upjohn

hip-hop reviews Project Polaroid's mesmerizing downtempo hip-hop throbs with a low-key but infectious stoned haze groove and is infused with dischordant jazz sampling and funked out flavahs.

There's almost a hint of dub to the proceedings as the chilled but hooky beats progress with attitude-edged lyrics move along with the groove. It's a nice alternative to the heavy-hitting hard rap (not that there's anything wrong with that). But - with some help from Kool Keith, whose presence only ups the ante creatively - Project Polaroid has crafted hip-hop that appeals more sublimely.
