LeToya Nicole Luckett left Destiny's Child back in 2000 amidst much controversy, verbal insults and lawsuits. After Anjel, her group with fellow ousted DC member, LaTavia Roberson, fell through, Luckett decided to go solo and finally emerges using just her first name on her eponymous debut.

On this engaging and extremely listenable set, LeToya proves herself to be the true queen of screwed R&B.

Right off the bat, listeners notice not only the Houston native's awesome singing ability, but also her tight writing skills. LeToya co-wrote two of Destiny's Child's biggest smashes ("Say My Name" and "Bills, Bills, Bills") and on this set she co-writes the majority of songs.

The tracks all bubble with production help from Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch and others as well as guest appearances from some of the hottest Houston rappers including Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Bun B and Slim Thug. Songs such as "She Don't" and the Dupri-produced "Torn" remix feature Spinners and Stylistics sample, while "Tear Da Club Up" features a capable Bun B. and a hot H-Town-style track served up by Jazze Pha. Slim Thug brings the screwed-up heat on the blazing "Hey Fella" and Jermaine Dupri delivers again on the buttery slow jam "This Song."

LeToya hits a home run with this disc enhanced to include video content from her reality show and the "Torn" video, and although you might wish her delivery didn't still sound quite so much like Destiny's Child, it definitely works.
