kanye west Hip-hop acts ruled this year's 3-day Lollapalooza with Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley and more acts providing some of the most anticipated performances.

Taking place at Chicago's Grant Park the once-revolutionary musicfest featured its first hip-hop headliner in West who also brought fellow Chicagoans Common, Twista and a skateboard-wielding Lupe Fiascoo along for the ride. Backed by an awesome, masked and female string section, West rejoiced in performing before his hometown and, most importantly, his mom.

"See, Mom, I told ya," he exclaimed emotionally. "I told ya I wanna rap. It works!"

West then dramatically tore out hits such as "Jesus Walks" and "Gold Digger" as well as Barkley's mega hit "Crazy."

Later, the duo of Cee-Lo Green and DJ Danger Mouse took proceedings to an otherworldly level with a 13-piece band, unusual covers and jaw-dropping vocals from Green. Dressed as tennis buffs, the groundbreaking team delivered what turned out to be the song to cover, "Crazy," also covered that weekend by the Raconteurs and Mates of State as well as West.

Memorable and notably politically correct hip-hop performances were  offered by an on fire Lyrics Born, backed by a hot and soulful funk band, as well as fellow Bay Area act Blackalicious, Britain's Lady Sovereign and more.
