hip-hop reviews Seven may not be a groundbreaker, but he sure as heck can turn out a solid disc of hip-hop deliciousness.

The album presents itself as hooky and infectious right out of the gate and pulls this feat by pumping out some solid, grabbing textures. Good melodies and strong sampling capabilities inform the tracks that fill Dirt 2 Diamonds running time, leaving the listener with some tasty hip-hop grooves.

The beats work like they’re supposed to, everything’s layered in nicely and the verbal rhythms are delivered with confidence and ability. From kicked back and sexy to hard-hitting and muscle-showing, Seven has put together a compact disc that is varied enough to fend off boredom, but rings true always with a constant personality.

It’s dynamic but not uneven, with each track unfolding a new side of the artist, but being distinctly the work of Seven. The DJ work in particular stands out here as the electronic elements, showing off a knowledgeable mind behind the boards. Check out “Move Your Body” for a good example of Seven in-your-face and also “Fat Laces,” one of the album's most unique and standout tracks.
