Method Man Gets Introspective "The Day After" PDF Print E-mail

methodman421coverAfter going through a difficult period, Method Man has reached deep inside his dark psyche to come up with what is being called his most introspective album to date.

4:21, The Day After, allows fans the opportunity to see the Wu Tang veteran be vulnerable and frank about the issues on his mind.

“I had a lot on my mind at the time and the second thing was, I decided to really talk about something and I had a lot to draw from and when the pen hit the paper it was like damn, remember this? And by the time I was done it was like shit, let’s go.”

The album drops tomorrow (August 29) and features special guest appearances from the usual Wu Tang crew member such as RZA, the late ODB, Raekwon and Inspectah Deck,  as well as La the Darkman, Streetlife, Fat Joe, Styles P, Megan Rochell, Ginuwine and Redman. Production is offered by RZA, Erick Sermon, Scott Storch, Havoc, Kwame, Allah Mathematics and Denaun Porter.

The set's first single, “Say”, featuring Lauryn Hill, witnesses Johnny Blaze confronting critics and haters for disrespecting him and the seminal Brooklyn hip-hop conglomerate he co-founded.

“You feel like you’re not in on the joke, and everyone’s laughing at you," the Grammy-winner said. "I felt like no one was taking me seriously. I got real angry and I just starting writing.”

“It’s real talk," he continued. "I’m going to keep my spirits up and not let it get things to me. You know, if you start reading your own press and feeding into it, and you start questioning yourself, like, ‘am I wack?’ and you have to be like, ‘No!’ I learned to pat myself on the back, and that it’s ok to pat myself on the back sometimes.”

And although it may sound apocalyptic, the album's title actually has a hopeful meaning behind it.

“The national weed smoking day is 4/20, so I named my album 4/21 the day after. Because after that day, you have this moment of clarity when you’re not high and you see things clearly.”

As reported in our news blog, the artist also known as Iron Lung will be signing copies of 4:21, The Day After in Manhattan's Union Square tomorrow.
