This appears to be a fairly big label release (Def Jam is involved) but it sure doesn't come off that way.

While I can't specifically fault the production - it's obviously profesional - there's something lacking that makes the music feel more like "playing" hip-hop artist than actually "being" one. It has that atmosphere of bedroom DJs, etc., that are obviously serious and trying to accomplish something with their music, but whose work just rings hollow, leaving behind that little kid playing grown-up, the amateur playing professional. That may be a tad harsh but there's definitely a touch of that here.
Port Of Miami just lacks hook, both lyrically and musically. A lot of the songs are mid-tempo efforts, which is ok in and of itself, but the groove never catches on, there's not infectiousness to the textures. The lyrics are delivered competently, but they have no real grabbing power, either. This just seems generic somehow, sophomoric and not terribly accomplished. It just lacks spirit.
