R&B reviews Bay Area stand up! The sprinkle man is back with My Ghetto Report Card and bringing along a new movement called “Hyphe.” Hyphe is a style of dancing similar to crunk or crump dancing, but with an Oakland twist. E-40’s first single off of the album “Tell Me When To Go” features Keak Da Sneak and a whole entire set of hyphe. E-40 has picked up the concept of giving an audience some major moves as they bump his music in their trunk. Although the “moves” are simple …ghost ride the whip…put yo’ stunna’ shades on…now gas, break, dip… this song is definitely guaranteed to pack a dance floor and light up the air waves on the radio.

E-40 - My Ghetto Report Card

E-40, who got his name from drinking so many forty quart beers, has teamed up with a man who effortlessly makes any record a club banger. This master of crunk music is none other than dirty south producer Lil’ Jon. It is easily recognizable that E-40 is influenced by legendary rappers like Oakland native, Too $hort by the things that he talks about, pimpin, hoes, and hustling. Its also evident that the south has rubbed him the right way as many of the tracks include heavy bass and “snap music” which was birthed in ATL.

“Gouda” which most people know as a type of cheese, is a metaphoric meaning for money.  Fans of this rapper’s ability to turn simple terms into hip adjectives and verbs can check out his slang dictionary said to be released this year. E-40 a.k.a Forty Water also revisits an ol’ school type of content on “Gimmie Head”. It reminds me of a period when every rapper thought it was extremely cool to rap about getting oral sex. “White Gurl” features the great style of Juelz Santana and UGK as they speak of metaphors describing women and drugs. “U And Dat” is the only female driven track which utilizes T-Pain and Kandi Girl. And the eldest of the tracks, “So Happy To Be Here” shows E-40’s appreciation for life but doesn’t exhibit his ability to make great decisions, as this track was a very boring finale to a overall hype album.

This album will definitely give someone a great introduction to the Yay area, get your head knocking and allow one to get their laugh on as its mesmerizing to hear the unique linguist. His slang and the skits on the album prove that although E-40 has been out of the game for a while, he hasn’t lost his sense of humor. I think that the clever MC earns a C+ for an average album, but the plus is for the creative way the verbiage is used….only as E-40 would do it. So while he is growing out his dreads, hopefully he gains some wisdom and gives a little more for the next album.
