Public
Enemy once again shows the world that while most rappers are keeping it
“gangsta” rapping about how many hoes they got, dope spots, how many
times they got shot, and the bling and the rocks; Chuck D and the click
will not be moved! Not even being subjected to this new type of
so-called hip-hop can make PE succumb to being like everyone else. The
album Rebirth of A Nation is thankfully, not different from the
style they had in the 80’s and 90’s. The new album is laced with
political messages, firm opinions, inspiration, and of course the MC
Flava Flav!!!!!! And although Flav has been busy trying to fall in love
on VH1’s reality TV show, Flavor of Love, not even the ladies Hoopz or
New York could keep him from his first love, spreading the message of
hard truth.

The entire album is definitely A
plus, but there are some tracks that make you want to play them over
and over. “Rise” spotlights Chuck D “rapping as if he is possessed by
Malcolm X" speaking of people, specifically black people, reuniting and
raising up as the media and the world conspires to make black people
look the other way and are robbed for everything in their
possession.“Plastic Nation” has to be one of my favorite tracks on the
album. As a woman, when a man says that liposuction, breast implants,
and removing stretch marks is unnatural and is an example of self hate,
it makes me feel like they appreciate a woman for all of our
self-proclaimed flaws.
“Hell
No (We ain’t alright)” shoots down the government’s lame excuses for
the way the aftermath process was executed for the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. The track even closes with sympathetic words of encouragement
from Flava Flav.
There are so many reasons to buy this album, not to mention that
veteran Bay area rapper and producer, Paris is featured on the album as
well as MC Ren, and Dead Prez just to name a few. Paris is also
responsible for writing most of the album and producing the entire
masterpiece.
The name Public Enemy will sell itself. Their audience always knows and
expects them to bring the revolutionary brutal heat. And although, PE
definitely has bragging rights for obvious reasons, their messages are
never filled with conceitedness- just massive content, making all MC’s
and audiences, no matter what side of the globe, recognize and show
respect.
