Now this is more like it...ill in-house production
blended with open-minded, free flowing lyrics to make for perhaps the
most solid effort these ears have heard all year. Hailing from Colorado, The Procussions shine bright on their sophomore album, 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents.
To give you a slight idea of what The Procussions
are transmitting, picture the light hearted, make you move your feet
music of the Black Eyed Peas before Fergie was thrown into the mix.
Shades of People Under The Stairs come to mind when I hear the laid
back "I'll Fly" featuring Tara Ellis. Regardless of what memories The
Procussions may stir up in my scatterbrain, the point is 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents is fun plain and simple.

Mixing
humor with sense, The Procussions tactfully speak their mind and drop
jewels on listeners as is the case on "For The Camera," a song
particularly relevant to the superficial, glamour and glitz Los
Angelino lifestyle. Simply titled "Track 10," The Procussions take
shots at the formulaic A&R influenced commercial raps that flood
the airwaves but tis all in good fun.
Amidst the torrent of cocaine pushers and war mongers flourishing in rap, albums like The Procussions' 5 Sparrows For 2 Cents
provide some relief and hope for the true hip-hop heads concerned not
with the fantasy lifestyle of some wannabe Tony Montana, but with the
everyday trials and tribulations of being a regular Joe.
Track after track,
this album is arranged in a fashion that you could easily sit through
the whole disc and not feel an itch to hit that skip buttonHonestly,
the more I write about this album, the more it feels as if I am trying
to sell it so I will say no more. Just give it a listen.
