C’mon buddy! Now you and I both know
that the south and booty bouncing bass beats go together like cough
syrup and private select strawberry soda. Just ask Bubba Sparxxx about
his third album – The Charm.
As
one of the two, little less few, white rappers to hail from the dirty
south, Bubba Sparxxx has burrowed a niche for himself through his laid
back approach and his conversational flow. His near veteran like savvy
shines brightest on the melodic “Claremont Lounge” as he calmly wets
the appetite of game hungry listeners with tidbits of women and drugs.

Hate the game not the
player. Paper thin tracks like the hackneyed “Ain’t Life Grand” and the
sappy whining of “Run Away” will leave you gritting your teeth and
shaking your head in disappointment. Bubba Sparxxx is a more than
capable emcee; however, his artistic direction is in dire need of some
inspiration.
The
Charm is designed for the clubs and the car systems as is evident on
“Ms. New Booty” and “Heat It Up.” Understand whether by choice or
necessity, Bubba Sparxxx has polished himself as a commercial rapper.
Despite what might sound like radio candy, Bubba Sparxxx manages to
reflect upon sensitive issues such as race in hip-hop on “Represent”
while uplifting his listeners with tales of perseverance on “The
Otherside” featuring Petey Pablo and Sleepy Brown.
Take it
from the Buffalo Bills, the third time does not necessarily mean
guaranteed success. Not to say that this album is without its moments,
but The Charm falls short of expectations. Bubba Sparxxx is definitely
one of the more colorful characters to erupt from the dirty south and
his product doesn’t quite fully reflect that.
