Back in 1997, Capone-N-Noreaga released the heated album, The War
Report, amidst the flaring egos of the east coast/west coast feud. By
harnessing the controversial imagery of rocking desert fatigues and
drawing connections between Lefraq and Iraq, CNN garnered enough
media hype to distance themselves from the rest of the rapping riff
raff.
Images
of the falling towers behind what I can only describe as a Taliban
member wrapped in the American flag dawn the cover. With the use of
Arabic characters littered throughout the inserts and track listings,
The Lost Children of Babylon make it abundantly clear that they
are…angry?

The Lost Children
of Babylon are by no means supporters of Al Qaeda nor are they
supporters of the Bush administration. As best as I could tell from the
eighteen tracks on this conspiracy theorist delight, The Lost Children
of Babylon are backpack cipher emcees with an affinity for…
complaining. Not once is there a solution proposed.
The 911 Report speaks
on the "governmentalities" and smoke screen tactics of the most famous
red herring of all time – a man who goes by the name, "The Man." Had I
the patience to sit through this album more than once, I probably could
have taken a tally of how many times I heard certain buzz words like GW
Bush, Dick Cheney, Enron and of course the most prolific word on the
album – conspiracy. It is in the title after all, but at times it felt
like an episode of Pee Wee’s Playhouse.
I
can appreciate the fervor with which they wield their constitutional
right to free speech; however, when you release an album with the
intent of making a profit, the product must be slightly entertaining.
As a listener, why should I pay to hear someone speak for free?
Opting to ramble rather than flow over otherwise decent beats, The 911 Report
regurgitates the same back alley trash fire conspiracy theories you
might hear from the homeless and schizophrenic. Unfortunately, this
demographic can not buy the album to appreciate it little less a system
to play it on.
