R&B/Hip-hop charts this week: Omarion turns 21, Mos Def gets his timing wrong, and Nas holds on to one top spot.
This week sees the Billboard 200 Top 10 dominated by R&B and hip-hop acts. Omarion leads the pack with his sophomore set, simply titled 21, at the pop chart's No. 1 spot as well as the top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums where it ranks as the week's hot shot debut.
Boasting production from Pharrell Williams, the Underdogs and Bryan Michael Cox, 21 speaks to the Omarion's growth. "To me, at 21, it was a realization of who I wanted to become," he said, "just me practicing my morals as a man and getting better in my craft." Also new is Mos Def's ridiculously timed release True Magic, which bows at No. 50. The set was released on December 29, a Friday, although albums are traditionally dropped on Tuesdays. In addition, the date right between Christmas and New Year's failed too help the set compete for the attention of music fans. There was confusion as to whether the set had been pushed back to a January 9 release, which added to the lack of sales for the otherwise popular emcee.
On the planet of songs, Beyonce remains stuck at No. 1 for a sixth week with "Irreplaceable."
Fergie's "Fergalicious," conquers the Pop 100 and also makes history. The extremely popular track sets on the digital charts by selling 295,000 downloads. |
