Featuring top notch tracks from respected soul and R&B artists, the soundtrack boasts tunes crafted specifically for the movie directly and echoes the message of family, love and perseverance rampant in the film.
Whitney Houston teams up with family members Cissy Houston (her mom) and Dionne Warwick (her cousin) for the aptly titled pep talk track "Family First." The moving single benefits from the weariness apparent in the younger Houston's voice juxtaposed against the stronger voices of the elder women, and could very well stand alone as her family's declaration of love in the face of Whitney's hard times.
Anthony Hamilton puts in work with Jaheim and Musiq Soulchild on the superman anthem "Struggle No More [Main Event]" and "Struggle No More." Beyonce's "Daddy" is an awesome display of her singing talent as well as love for her own dad, while R. Kelly's "Don't Let Go" is a classic Kelly lovesong.
Brian McKnight (who scored the film as well) makes a sweet appearance with the beautiful "I Believe," Yolanda Adams takes it to church with "Step Aside" and Governor's powerful "Blood, Sweat & Tears" adds just the right amount of ghetto righteousness to the mix.
The only problem with this disc is the short length, but the album's mix of soul, gospel and general positive messages is almost guaranteed to pick up the spirits of anyone who hears it.
