Flipsyde
is definitely flipping the music world with their debut release We The
People.
This album is verbally refreshing and invites the head-bobbing
of hip-hop lovers, the hips of salsa dancers, the ears of country fans,
and the foot-stomping of rock addicts. It's no wonder this album
represents different musical taste as the group is comprised of four
talented men all the way from South America to Alabama to the Bay Area.
Piper, Steve Knight, Dave Lopez, and D-Sharp spit and sing unique
lyrics that shed light on subjects that are not found dominant in
music-politics, prayer, and unity.

In the latin-inspired track, “U.S.
History”, the foursome does a great job of recapping history using
metaphors to show the relationship of America to other countries. Often
times on this track, America is verbally shown as the big dog who will
not allow anyone to use its bones, unless they will get double bones
back. “Angel” gives credit to all the single spectacular mothers in the
world, while “Revolutionary Beat” is a bass-filled track that explains
why we don’t have unity in our world and what the outcome will be if we
don’t become unified.
After listening to this
album, you will not be able to classify it as one specific genre as it
offers intense musical variety. That in itself speaks never heard
before volume for these brave artists in 2006. I do think this group
will see some hesitation on the public’s part to purchase this album as
it is far from the “norm”. However, someone had to do it….create
something with substance that represents positivity as well as
empowerment for all people. Music lovers should definitely embrace this
creative group, take a journey on the flipside, and try something new
for a change.
