The theme of change resonates throughout the album. “Girl They Won’t Believe It” is an uplifting ballad that is reminiscent of an early Mariah Carey. Stone proudly expresses her determination to chase her dreams, despite the adversity along the way.

On “Tell Me ‘Bout It,” Stone isn’t ashamed of her sexual nature as she sings, “If I could do the things I want to you/You’d be changin’ all your plans.” The funky, jam band style is perfectly synchronized against the strength of her voice.

Common melodically joins in on “Tell Me What We’re Gonna Do Now,” a track about a newly-blossoming relationship. The beat is a slower, nostalgic version of the classic Bob Marley love song “No Woman, No Cry.”

Stone confesses her love affair with music on a track featuring the mysterious Lauryn Hill.  “Music” pays homage to hip-hop, as Hill drops in with a classic verse gloating her ability to make rhyming sound so easy.

The latter half of the album is more somber, but Stone does not whine about the problems she faces. In “Bad Habit” and “Bruised But Not Broken,” she is optimistic because they are necessary for change and growth.

Years from now, Introducing Joss Stone will be considered a timeless album. She has an open heart, an aspiring mind, and a voice that can speak to everyone.
