Lazily touted by many critics as the return of the "classic Prince" sound, Planet Earth truly gives the younger generation a taste of vintage Prince (circa early 90s) as he tries, successfully, to please both longtime and new fans.
While it's no Symbol album or Sign 'O' The Times, ...Earth stands strong as one of his most engaging albums in a decade. Songs such as sensually-corny "Future Baby Mama" strive to stay up on the current slang, while the sweet slow jam vibe of "Somewhere Here On Earth" firmly grounds itself in classicsville. Although it wouldn't be vintage Prince without his signature brand of slightly embarrassing psuedo-rap (found on "Mr. Goodnight"), the reunion of the icon with the super-talented Wendy and Lisa (from his former band The Revolution) is truly a full-circle event for long-time fans.
What's most amazing, outside of the never ceasing talent in what is his fourth decade in the business, is the quality of vocals - still fresh, clear and ready to roll for another 40 years.
