R&B/Hip-hop charts this week: Angie Stone declares "war," Alicia Keys remains queen, and Rahsaan Patterson has a broken heart.
This week's charts sees the return of tried and true hit makers to the top. Starting off we see soul powerhouse Angie Stone cop the No. 1 spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list with her latest The Art Of Love & War. The album is Stone's first release on the newly re-launched Stax Records and plays host to the likes of Betty Wright and James Ingram.
Guitar don Carlos Santana gets another Top 10 notch in his belt as Ultimate Santana debuts at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Featuring tracks from previous Santana releases as well as new material the set includes the usual genre-less gaggle of guests including Jennifer Lopez, Baby Bash and Everlast.
Also new on the charts is the career-spanning compilation of hits from the late Luther Vandross bowing at No. 23. Love, Luther features 56 tracks, including Vandross classics and a new track.
Making the week's greatest gains on the R&B tally is the soundtrack Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? Jumping 10-7 the set's sales are due in part to the movie's success asit ranks #2 in this week's box office stats.
In the wonderful land of singles Alicia Keys remains the rightful queen. Her "No One" remains at the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a second week while it earns the distinction as this week's greatest airplay gainer on the Hot 100.
And while Soulja Boy's enjoying his fantastic luck with "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" in its seventh week at No. 1, that may change next week as Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss" zooms an astonishing 22-2 in its first week as a digital release. Brown's sophomore set, Exclusive, is due in November.
Other new songs this week include the latest from Rahsaan Patterson whom the chart hasn't seen since 1999. His latest, "Stop Breaking My Heart," wins the title of this week's top debut at No. 68.
