He steps back! He shoots! He scores! Most valuable player has to be the
upcoming artist Kurtis Stanley. His 2005 album Long Time Comin' has
put him on a playing field that even some rap veterans haven’t reached yet.
Hailing from the Dirty South, Nashville or more commonly called “Cashville, Tennessee,” Kurtis is something refreshing, very much needed, and he has unique verbal skills which some people debate southern artists exhibit. With one listen at the album, anybody who argues the previous point will take two steps back and give props where props are due. Not only does he put it down lyrically, his concepts are crazy! “Good Luck With That” is propelled by a hot beat and Kurtis’ non-hating verbal attitude on people who hate or commit ill acts just to get to the top. “Sickswonfi” is definitely for the Cashvillians, but the track is guaranteed to get any and every crowd hype-no matter what side of the compass you claim. “Don’t Go” is targeted towards the females and is guaranteed to make the ladies fall in love this southern lyricist’ resonating verses. “Rap Blasphemy” has a 1950’s feel to it with the “du-wop” singers dropping the hook-now that is innovative! The metaphoric ability in this entire album is eye-opening, ear-catching, and it will make you have an uncontrollable urge to bob your head so please proceed with caution! If this album gives any insight of what is yet to come from this artist, we look forward to this verbal assassin chopping up more tracks to quench the hip-hop community’s thirst for real talent.
