As anticipated, Mariah Carey thumped the competition this week as her latest release E=MC² debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 albums with impressive sales of 463,000 units.
Previously the set had made history as its lead single, "Touch My Body," helped Mimi shatter Elvis Presley's record. E=MC² also debuts No.1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and No.1 on the Top Digital albums chart while offering Carey the biggest first week debut of her career. Carey's last album, 2005's comeback The Emancipation Of Mimi, sold a worldwide 10 million, generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two No. 1 singles, and stayed on the charts for 18 months. It was logged as Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of the year, brought Carey's total sales to over 160 million worldwide, and made her the top-selling female recording artist in history. |
