The three detectives who killed Sean Bell were found not guilty on all charges Friday morning. Mr. Bell, an innocent man and father to an infant, celebrated his bachelor party shortly before dying in a hail of 50 police bullets outside a club in Jamaica, Queen hours before the 23 year-old was to be married.
The New York Times reports the judge called the testimony of Mr. Bell’s friends and the two wounded victims, not believable. Attending the trial was Mr. Bell's family including his parents and fiancee surrounded by approximately 30 police officers and a general tone of astonishment at the verdict. In the halls and outside gathered protestors who eventually reacted to the news. “There are no winners in a trial like this,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “An innocent man lost his life, a bride lost her groom, two daughters lost their father, and a mother and a father lost their son.” |
