The heartfelt song “Women” gives the overdue respect and praise to all females, including the wifeys, baby mamas, and their mama. Perhaps, women will no longer remind you of a jeep, as they do for R. Kelly.
DeVaughn seals the deal on the seductive song “Earth,” featuring Big Boi. He sings with conviction “we got a match that’s made on Earth, the next best thing to heaven” as if there’s one day left to live. However, the energetic bass pattern and soaring string arrangement in the chorus just might get them to heaven. The flowering introduction on “Mo Better” revisits the classic sound from the unforgettable ‘60s and ‘70s. Just think of the musical atmosphere of Al Green, Al Wilson or Billy Paul in “Me and Mrs. Jones.” Two other songs that feature Raheem DeVaughn reuniting with his roots are “Butterflies,” wielding one of those Stevie Wonderish uplifting chord progressions, and “Friday,” a flipped version of the Motown ubiquitous hit “My Girl.” Love Behind The Melody picks up where those timeless r&b and soul jams left off. It unites the past with the present and projects the sound of someone who confidently confesses—“I know I’m kind of young, but I have an old soul.” Download: “Woman” “Customer” “Butterflies” “Mo Better” To purchase CDs, click on the cover art or title link.
