Eight(8) years after the murder of Notorious B.I.G., the Los Angeles police Department has launched a task force dedicated to investigating the still-unsolved crime.Six veteran homicide detectives have been mandated to lead the investigation. According to the Los Angeles Time, the new probe is, in part, a result of the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the B.I.G.'s family who claim rogue police officers were involved in the killing. In July 2005, the trial was thrown out by the judge. The lawsuit filed by the Wallace family ended in a mistrial last year after the discovery that a police detective purposefully hid statements by a jailhouse informant linking the murder to two former LAPD officers. The investigative team will try to prove that B.I.G., aka Christopher Wallace, was killed by a member of the Southside Crips gang in retaliation for the slaying of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas six months earlier. They will also explore the possibility that Wallace was shot dead by a member of the Bloods allegedly hired by Marion "Suge" Knight, ex-CEO of Death Row, which at the time was Shakur's label. The bankrupt Knight continues to deny any involvement in the murder. 24 year-old B.I.G., gunned down March 9, 1997, while leaving a party at a Los Angeles museum. In September 2004, the LA Times claimed Biggie had Tupac killed. |
