50 Cent's St Valentine's Day Massacre, is scheduled to drop in March. 50 recently spoke to MTV about the expected sophomore slump and what fans can expect.
"When I started, I went in and did like 14, 15 records," 50 said of the recording process. "Then I put those records aside and started over. I went out to L.A. and worked with Dre. We got some special joints so I'm excited right now. I know I'm gonna exceed everyone's expectations on this project because they feel like Get Rich or Die Tryin' was the best I could do. I got something up my sleeve."
Dr. Dre, executive producer for both 50 Cent albums, confirmed that where it took one week to record the first one, it took two weeks to work on the follow-up.
I guarantee this album will be 10 times better than my first record," 50 continued. "It's a little more complex. Now that I know people are listening, I can articulate and write the things I wanna write. My first record, I was just trying to have fun with it and express my actual situations. I write about the harsh realities. I'm just interested in seeing how they respond to it."
In the meantime, 50 Cent, now also known as Ferrari F50, dropped mixtape 2050 (Before the Massacre) to help ease the anticipation pains of eager fans.
Co-produced by DJ Whoo Kid, the mixtape features the album’s first official single, “Candy Shop” featuring Olivia, along with a remake of Notorious B.I.G.'s "My Downfall" on which 50 raps: "The flow is CPR, I bring Biggie back to life."
“The freestyles are all new. Nothing old,” DJ Whoo kid told MTV.com. “We [were] in the studio for two days straight, dirty as f--k. Nobody left, nobody took a shower, just straight freestyles.”
"Right now he's highly unpredictable," Whoo continued, "and I don't know what he's gonna do. This guy is crazy. He's out for everybody's head right now. He's definitely gonna sell his units again. The 10 million mark will be right back.
And of St Valentine's Day Massacre, Whoo had this to say:
"The album is ridiculous. I don't think anybody is gonna be messing with him. He's gonna knock off some heads."
