T.I. recently took a time out from recording and performing to educate youth on the dangers of street life.
On Thursday (April 21st) the self-proclaimed King of the South, and his crew at Grand Hustle Management spoke to over 150 kids at the Paulding Detention Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., shared personal testimonies geared at helping youth identify, and stay out of, situations that end up in detention at juvenile facilities. He also answered questions concerning education, giving back to the community, and the music business.
The day was part of a collaboration with the It's Cool To Be Smart Single Parent Initiative.
"It was a privilege to have Atlantic Recording Artist T.I., take time from his busy schedule to come talk with the kids," said Curtis B. Executive Director of the Single Parent Initiative.
T.I. also addressed drugs, gang violence, and how to make sure they were "staying focused on being the best that they can be without being a low-down thug."
Teens shared their own stories by reading poetry on topics such as becoming a role model, and having faith to move through difficult situations in life.
"The kids were mesmerized by T.I.'s presence that impacted every youth at the facility," said a statment. "The youth at Paulding RYDC will never forget T.I.'s special visit and his words of encouragement that will forever be instilled in their lives."
T.I., Grand Hustle Management, and Atlantic Records have also provided scholarships for single parent families at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Atlanta.
